R.E.M, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine, & Others Campaign to Close Guantanamo Bay Prison
Here’s some help for ya, Obama

Two days after he became our brand-spankin’-new president, Barack Obama pledged to close the US torture prison in Guantanamo Bay within a year. Needless to say, this was with good reason considering all the terrible practices that occurred there, which, among many other things, included blasting various songs at eardrum-bursting volume for the prisoners.
Well, now some of those artists are taking action against the prison that so inhumanely used their art.
The National Campaign to Close Guantanamo Bay got some new members, consisting of R.E.M, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle and Billy Bragg, all who see the use of music as a method of torture, as R.E.M as a group stated, as anti-American.
Among many of the songs used in Gitmo were Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The USA”, Nine Inch Nail’s “March of the Pigs”, Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, Don MacLean’s “American Pie”, and on the sicker side, music from Sesame Street, the “I Love You” song from Barney, and the Meow Mix song. Trent Reznor first spoke out against the use of his music in the prison in December of 2008, calling the use of it “enraging.”
Let’s keep music where it’s meant to be, America.
Them Crooked Vultures Announce November 17th As Debut Album Release Date!
That’s right, IT’S FINALLY COMING!!

As previously reported, Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones have been collaborating in a group they’re calling Them Crooked Vultures since a debut show in Chicago back in August. However, the band never had anything more than little snippets of songs released to the public…
Until now.
Here’s a post from the band’s website, put up just two days ago:
[Oct. 22, 2009] Them Crooked Vultures—a/k/a Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme and John Paul Jones—has confirmed November 17 as the release date of its eponymous debut album in the United States and Canada on DGC/Interscope Records.
The self-produced 13-song record will feature the debut of the studio versions of the material Them Crooked Vultures unveiled at its August 9 debut at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro and played on a first series of shows throughout a handful of UK and European cities and portions of the eastern U.S., wrapping up with an October 15 appearance at New York’s Roseland Ballroom.
Additional shows are being announced in the wake of the album’s release, including but not necessarily limited to December dates in the UK and Europe and a January trip to Australia and New Zealand.
The tracklisting for the album is as follows:
- No One Loves Me & Neither Do I
- Mind Eraser, No Chaser
- New Fang
- Dead End Friends
- Elephants
- Scumbag Blues
- Bandoliers
- Reptiles
- Interlude With Ludes
- Warsaw or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up
- Caligulove
- Gunman
- Spinning In Daffodils
Can’t freaking wait!
New Vampire Weekend Single Coming Soon!

Though it’s only been a couple weeks since the last Vampire Weekend single from their new album, Contra, was posted online, the band is already getting “vamped up” (I’m sorry, I had to) for another single.
This one’s called “Cousins” and it’ll coincidentally be dropping on the same day as the Them Crooked Vultures album (yes, Christmas does come early sometime).
Interestingly enough, the single will also come with another track, titled “California English, pt. 2”, which is intriguing as the Contra tracklist features the supposed “pt. 1”.
I personally really enjoy the song (a live version of which can be found below) a lot more than Horchata, the other single already released. The guitar work seems a lot more inventive, and all in all the song seems just more fun.
Watch the song down here and let me know what you think!
Thanks for checking in errone!
Next week we’ll have Episode 10 and a Showtime! post from The Sounds, coming to In The Venue next Friday, so good times all around :)
Y!L!N!
