Episode 10: The xx to Honestly Tour With jj, Hear New Animal Collective, Veedeo: Cousins by Vampire Weekend

Well dayam, it’s been a while since I’ve whipped a full-on episode out here. It’s been mostly a crazy time filled with show-goings as of late, so those have been dominating the blog for the past couple weeks. Feels good to go back to the news. Anyways—

The xx to Tour With jj

Yes, this isn’t a joke, it’s actually happening.

I’d been joking about this happening for a couple months, and now these guys just had to go ahead and mess my joke up. Jerks.

My whining aside however, this actually ends up being a very cool idea. Thinking about it, these two groups have sounds that would mesh very well at a show; if you happen to be lucky enough to be in the seven random towns the two groups will be playing in next April, you should, without a doubt, go pay them a visit.

Though the two groups may have similarly structured names, the way they have publicized their music has been completely opposite, which makes it very interesting that they would tour together. The xx, from the UK, have been touring LIKE CRAZY for the past three months (and will continue this craziness til April 2010, as you’ll see down below), but jj, from Sweden, are ironically becoming widely known as one of the most obscure bands of the day. I was honestly shocked off my ass when I found out they were coming to the states.

Either way though, it should be a mind-widening show if you can make it to either of the bands—check out the rest of The xx’s MASSIVE tour down below:

Listen to Animal Collective’s New Song “Graze”

Yup. They’re still strange. And awesome.

A little while ago, I talked about how electro-weirdos Animal Collective were putting out a new EP that was sort of a growth off of the band’s latest album Merriweather Post Pavilion entitled Fall Be Kind (as a play on words for the saying “Spring forward, fall behind”). And well, it’s happening!

Down below is the first track off the 5-song EP, which is due out (digitally) tomorrow. This track, called “Graze” has a pretty typical “Hi, we’re Animal Collective, and this is the first song on our album that you’re listening to” vibe to it. The first half of the song has a pretty ethereal vibe to it that gets replaced by this odd-sounding panpipe line that plays abnormally fast for the rest of the track.

It’s most definitely a great one though, panpipes aside, and I’m really excited for the EP to drop tomorrow. Check it out!

Veedeo: New Vampire Weekend Song! “Cousins”

I actually mentioned this song in the last full episode of You! Listen! Now!, although the only real thing I could find for it was a live video that kinda sorta didn’t really work too well. Well, Vampire Weekend have delivered once again, revealing another song from the ten-song follow-up to their awesome debut (this one’s to be titled “Contra”), with a video for “Cousins” filmed going up…and down…and up again on this random, ol’ alleyway (This interestingly happens to be where the artwork for the song came from, so my guess is that this thing was filmed kind of a while ago)

This definitely sounds like the next “A-Punk”, I’m not gonna lie, but the band really kicks it into an awesome groove and, though it may sound like a bit of a repeat, it’s so much fun to listen to that I can’t complain about it at all.

Step 1: Click Play. Step 2: Make sure nobody’s watching. Step 3: Rock the hell out.

Alright everybody, thanks for checking this one out! The concert season’s slowing down a little bit now, so you can expect some more of this news stuff in the future (but NOT UNTIL the freaking FLOBOTS Showtime! post is up from the show they’re playing next week! Whoop Whoop!)

Love to all of ya

Y!L!N!
