Hey everyone! So, for those of you who have been keeping up with this lil’ blog of mine for a while, you may have noticed the distinct lack of posts for a little while now, which I sincerely apologize for. I’ve just been going through finals for Fall semester, which have not allowed for very much sleep, let alone free time. But all’s said and done now, so let the blogging recommence! Thanks for sticking with us!

It appears now that the eminent return of legendary funk dudes Red Hot Chili Peppers, hopefully sometime next year, will sadly be without the anthemic guitar work from John Frusciante. Frusciante had been with the band for a cumulative of around 14 years, leaving once in 1992, then returning in 1999 to record the Grammy winning Californication with the rest of the guys.
Now, however, he seems to be out for another good while, even though the rest of the band has reported they will be rejoining to work on new material after the hiatus taken following their tour for the 2006 album Stadium Arcadium. In a post on Frusciante’s Myspace page, he has stated:
When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.
To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.
I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.
Well, needless to say, this blows pretty hard.
From the sounds of it, however, Frusciante will continue to work on his great, albeit weird, solo project, so at the very least he’s given us something to look forward to. And besides, he’s already crawled back to the band once before, there’s always the hope that a second time is possible as well.
Thanks for reading everyone!
It’s nice to be back :)
